Fabric Fetish
Every Sunday afternoon I call my parents on the telephone and we share stories from our week. My Mom was telling me about a family in the neighborhood that is going through some pretty rough times. When I was in high school this family lost a son. He had a heart defect. Apparently, the dad to this boy also has the same problem. But it has progressed rather slowly. Till now. He is at a point where he needs to have surgery. They live in Idaho. The surgeon they need to see is in Cleveland. On top of this, his wife has had kidney trouble and I believe is on a transplant list. The community is having a benefit dinner and auction this week and I wanted to help. I decided to make a few little fabric bags and send them up. I know they won't fetch a lot of money, but hey, every little bit helps, right?
So, I started digging through my mountains of fabric.
Soon after, I started to feel a little dizzy. Then nausea set in. My head started to pound and I felt weak. I sat down and rested for a moment and that's when my dear, sweet Husband decided that the fabric must have made me ill. I think what he's really trying to say is "Please don't bring ANY MORE of that STUFF into the house!" And, if it really did make me sick, or even if I had an allergy to it, that would be the perfect excuse. Too bad a little rest and food made me feel better. Luckily for him our JoAnn Fabric is closed at the moment. We are getting a new one at the end of the month.
You know... even if fabric did make me ill, I'd probably keep buying it. That's what addicts do, right? Continue with a behavior, no matter the consequences...

You are such a sweet person--and you are so right, every little bit helps.

I love that you talk with your folks every week--such a wonderful daughter. I bet your parents just love sharing stories.

That's right... you'll never give up fabric. Good luck with the bags- they'll be great.

At least it's a useful obsession! Isn't fabric something that we're supposed to have in our years supply. You've got that covered!

You're so cute. :-)

I'm sure every little bit of $$ helps, and you're generous to want to help.

I hope it goes well. The surgery, as well.

Is your fabric ON HANGERS?
(sigh)
Oh, to be organized.

I've stopped buying, but I have piles and piles of it in the cupboard. One day, when there's more time.......
Cheers
