BLAH!
Have you ever had a really funny post in your head, but then things start to go crazy and all funniness tends to leave? Yeah. That's me today. Sorry. I'm a stressed out mess. Our contract to renew our lease with the house is coming up. Our landlord told us we could set the length for any amount of time since we've already been here for a year. And, he would keep the rent where it is at. We told him we wanted 6 months - thinking we might move into a bigger place around spring break. That would give us a chance to save up a little money for the deposit and moving expenses. (Which we should have been doing all along... I know... :S) He told us "Sorry... can't do that". Um... okay... so, we asked if we could go till the end of the school year. The answer was yes, but he was going to jack up the rent! Whatever happened to letting us set the terms on this thing and keeping the rent the same? So now he's kind of got us over a barrel. We can't really afford to move right now and we can't afford the higher rent. But he will leave the rent alone if we will stay for another year. I'm furious. I really wanted to get out of this neighborhood. Away from the kids who are so awful to Red. Have I ever told you about the time they stuffed him into a suitcase and then drug it up and down the street?? Yeah. So, it looks like we're in it for another year. Doesn't that sound like fun??
Sorry about my little rant. I'll try to think of something a little more entertaining to post about later today...

I hate renting. But owning is no piece of cake either.

Sorry about your doofus landlord!

Ouch! You don't have to be funny, you know. You can vent to us and have us praying for you and thinking huggy thoughts in your direction. ~hugs~

What a terrible position to be in... hope you'll figure it out and be happy with the outcome, or at least be able to survive the outcome.

Hang in there. It totally stinks what's happening but maybe it'll prbably all be worth it later, right? If you can survive until later that is!

Grab your favorite soda and curl up on the couch for your favorite show. Always helps me to feel better!

I am so sorry you're having to deal with that. I hope it is resolved soon.

That is awful! I can't believe they would put him in a suitcase!!! That is not a fun situation that you are in, I hope everything works out for you!

We rent too and it can be a bummer sometimes. A good neighborhood makes such a difference doesn't it? I'm sorry yours is so frustrating.

What a jerky landlord. "Must milk tenants for everything I want...milk, milk." Boo.

Just let Red carry a baseball bat with him wherever he goes. And teach him how to use it. Nothing wrong with teaching a little self-defense. But what could you give him that the wee bullies wouldn't take from him? Oh--how about chicken pox? No...then he'd be sick...I need to give this some thought...

we were in a rent controlled area before we moved here. We were so lucky.

Ugghh, renting can be such a pain. It's true that owning can be hard too but at least you "set" the rent.

I know that I'm new to the bloggy world but not every day can be a bowl of cherries so feel free to vent.

I hope everything works out for you guys.

we all have our bad days. i think it's great that your blog can reflect the bad along with the good and funny.

this situation sounds very frustrating. hope something good comes out of all of it.

The main reason we sunk money into buying a house is because of all the landlord rent jacking we endured. Our housing costs are probably only a third of California costs, though. That helps quite a bit.

Oh, and sometimes I don't blog at all for a few days because real life kicks in and I'm just not feeling the bloggy frame of mind necessary to write.

We've all been there. I hope this works out for you. We live in a kind of crap neighborhood but I rely on our fenced in yard to keep my kids safe from the roving bands of thug kids.

That sounds HORRIBLE! And just as horrible is the way the landlord is treating you!
