Dessert in the Desert
Whenever my family comes, we try to have lots and lots of good food. It's how we bribe them to come down here... well that, and our lack of snow! One of my favorite things to make is desserts... who doesn't love a good dessert? I've started to make a list of all the super sweetness that will fill our bellies...we have carmel apple pie, chocolate trifle, Cocoa Crispie ice cream dessert, and strawberry shortcake. I'm still deciding on a few others... maybe a peach crisp or perhaps we'll do a cobbler in the Dutch oven. I haven't decided yet.
The dinners are also gonna be super yummy with Puerto Rican chicken and rice, Navajo tacos, corn chowder, hamburgers with onion strings, tacos with homemade tortillas, and a myriad of other concoctions! They are only going to be here for 5 days, so we have to make the most of our eating time together.
Do you have anything special that you like to cook when family comes to town?

What time should I come over??? :D

Well, when my in-laws come to visit, I ask my Hubby what he wants me to make to impress them. Usually it's chili or hamburger gravy (LOL!).

When my family comes to visit, I usually go a TAD BIT more sophisticated than that. (hee hee)

Seriously. Your menu sounds scrumdidiliumptious (sp?).

Hubby's birthday is next weekend, and I'm thinking I'll give a trifle a go. He's always asking for it, but I'm not too big on soggy cake n' all that, so I've never tried it. This year, I can't really think of anything nice to do for his birthday (except for you know what!!), so I guess we're down to making trifle.

Hope you have fun with your family in town!! :)

How do you make Puerto Rican chicken and rice? I'd also love a recipe for chocolate trifle. When my in-laws come, I make things they don't usually eat. They are meat and potato kind of people. I make yummy salads, homemade bread, and grilled pork loins.

Yea! I want that Puerto Rican Chicken recipe, too. I'm having a house load of people next weekend, and I've been trying to decide what to make.

Um, yeah. How long till you post those recipes? I have company here NOW, and I don't know what to cook them!

Yum, sounds like they'll have plenty to eat. I, too, would love the puerto rican chicken recipe.

I hope you have a wonderful time with everyone. (Thanks for the links to the recipes; )

When we have grandparents visit, I love to cook up lots of recipes that my kids don't like (it's always nice to have some adults that appreciate my cooking), but two of them are on the Diabetic Diet and the other two are on Weight Watchers.... hmmm... leaves me scrambling to find fun recipes, but not stuff that screams, "health food... we're all on a diet!" Wish I could be more helpful!

My hubby makes a fantastic taco salad. And oh, I'm going to look at that chocolate trifle. I've been craving trifle for some days now.

And the Schrute bucks were awesome!

Well, no one really comes to see us... but for company I like my Pasta and Sun-dried tomatoes, apple pie, sometimes my snickers cake. We also like to BBQ. When we go to my mom's she always does a BBQ Tri-Tip steak with potato casserole.
