And the Rain Rain Rain Came Down Down Down
It doesn't rain very often here in our lovely Southern California desert. But when it does? It POURS. The streets fill up fairly quickly. Our neighborhood is set so we don't get flooding right by our house. Just some nice sized puddles.Which is a good thing since my kids like to go out and play in the rain. Well, not all of my kids. Red and Baby Girl take little to no coaxing to get them outside splashing in puddles and running up and down the street with their umbrellas (yes, we're still in our p.j.'s at 10:30 in the morning).
Little Bug on the other hand... well, he doesn't like getting dripped on. He doesn't like the noise the rain makes as it falls. And he hates to be wet, unless he's in the pool or the tub. So his adventure was a little different today. He stood in the doorway for a long time trying to decide if he even wanted to go out.
I finally got him out the door, but he wouldn't go out in the rain. He sat with his fingers firmly in his ears and refused to take them out.
I did get him to take his umbrella half way out into the rain. He scowled but went a long, up to a point. Then he dashed back under the entry way. I eventually got him to get his feet wet and smile a bit. He MIGHT have even enjoyed being outside just a tad. But I could tell it was hard for him. It was a sensory overload, but still, he went out and explored in his own way.
I love how each of my kids inspire me.
Red was out there running up and down the road splashing and singing as he went! He soaked up every minute and was so disappointed when the rain came to a stop.
Baby Girl was a little more timid. She's more cautious, but once she discovers something she loves, she puts her heart and soul into it.
Little Bug went outside. The sound of the rain obviously bothered him, possibly even hurt him. He let the rain drip a little on his umbrella. He got wet. He could have stayed inside where it was comfortable, but he ventured out.
Some of you may have noticed that I haven't been blog hopping lately. I apologize for that. You see, being a mom doesn't come naturally to me. It's something I really have to work on. And so, I tend to hide out and be a little lazy. But, there's a problem with that.
My kids are growing up. I've missed so much sitting here in front of the computer. I don't want to miss anything else.
So, I hope you can forgive me. I've cut back on computer time. I'm going to read blogs twice a week. I won't get to all of your posts, but I'll try.
Now, I'm off. I going to go paint butterflies, play games, and hopefully learn a few things from my kids.

LOVED this post!!! As for your guy, do earplugs work? Or headphones just to mute the sounds a bit help? Just a thought.

No worries on the cutting down of blog-hopping. Completely understandable & commendable. Love you for it!!! Now go!

What a gret post Melissa! I love to dance in the rain. One thing I really focus on as a mom is taking time to enjoy the small everyday things. Kids love the simlpest things. Time slips by so fast and I don't want to miss a beat of it. I know I will make mistakes as a mom. It's unavoidable. But one thing I never want to regret is not being there for my girls. When they are grown and gone I will miss chasing butterflies, playing with playdough until my fingers turn colors and just being a kid! Enjoy your time! Don't ever apologize for taking time to do what's most important!!! Love ya!

The most important thing you can do is be a mom--don't worry about blogging. When you have time, that's all.

I know for my Brent the organ at Church used to drive him absolutely bonkers.

Did the rain help cool things down at all???

Being a mom doesn't come naturally to me either. ;) I spend too much time doing other things and I really need to focus on my kids more.

Great post.

I love it when it rains . . . as long as I don't have anywhere to go. Enjoy spending time with your family!

I love playing in the rain and here in Oregon, as you know, we get plenty of chances to do so.

Don't worry about cutting back. I have had to as well. I just don't have time to read more than once or twice a week. I'll still be around though.

Enjoy those beautiful kids!!

Way to go - I'm not a "get on my hands and knees" to play with my kids type mom either, but I need to be better about spending quality time with them. I've cut my blog read list significantly and that's helped a lot.

I can't believe we missed it! I loved the monsoons there growing up, but we were there for 2 years and it hardly rained the entire time. It all looks so fun!

Your kids look SO CUTE! I love that they all have fun, different colored umbrellas of their own! :)

I think that same storm might have come through our part of the desert, too...the rain was great! :D

Good for you, cutting back on computer time. I'm always TRYING to do that! :S
