Round is a Shape
So, I've gained a little weight... again... and I'm trying to get motivated to get up and get moving. It's harder than I thought it would be. I'll admit it - I like being lazy. I enjoy lounging around, reading books, messing around on the computer, and in general, doing nothing. Of course, the health benefits to this type of lifestyle are fairly limited. Okay, really, they are nonexistent. So, I'm trying to get motivated. And so, I turn to you, blogging buddies. I have a few questions that I'd love for you to answer if you get a moment...
What is your favorite healthy meal?
What about healthy snacks?
What do you do for exercise?
Do you stick to the same routine?
Or do you like to change it up?
How do you stay motivated to reach your goals?(Not just weight loss goals... any goals)
I know I can do this. I've done it in the past and I want to do it again. Any thing you can share with me would be much appreciated!

My favourite snacks are all the naughty-but-not ones that have come out in the last year -

Cozy shack 90 calorie puddings
Breyer's 100 calorie ice cream cups

that kind of thing -

But I also LOVE carrots, celery, strawberries. mmmmm.

Sorry, but I'm not much help. I have a terrible diet and haven't excercised in 10 years. Walking up and down our stairs is draining enough! LOL!

I check out different exercise videos/dvds from the library to "change it up." I run up & down the stairs or else just do "stair-stepping" aerobics on the bottom step. I walk to & from school every day unless it's raining.

Favorite snacks? FRUIT, sugar-snap peas.

I don't "diet" because - I don't believe in it. I just "live-it." :)

I find that if I commit myself to a race, then I stick with my running because I have a goal in mind and I don't want to embarrass myself on race day. Also, the entry fees are non-refundable. It's amazing how a small amount of money can also be motivating!

I have been pretty upfront on my blog lately about my weight-loss efforts. I am doing a kick-butt adventure boot camp and my favorite snacks are Kashi pumpkin spice flax bars.

I just bought the new healthy cookbook Hungry Girl, which is FANTASTIC!

Just about anything by Kashi makes me happy. Lots of fiber in the diet (added gradually though!), helps you stay full longer and speeds the yucky stuff out of your body. It's all about the fiber baby! And the water! 8 cups isn't enough for weight loss efforts. Lots of water helps the pounds just wash away. Or something.

Lots of fruit&veg, lean meats (turkey, chicken, eggs), whole grain everything.

As far as exercise, I'm horrible at it. I use housework as my exercise sometimes. Put on good music and dance while I work, but I don't do it as often as I should. Family walks after dinner have been great for us as well.

Good luck!

What is your favorite healthy meal? - I don't know just how healthy it is but it has rice, veggies and meat in it; Chicken and vegetable curry

What about healthy snacks? - Home popped salted popcorn (no butter) or vanilla yogurt with a sprinkling of granola.

What do you do for exercise?
I get bored easily so I alternate between doing two videos (Gym in a Box with Leisa Hart and Pilates all in One Workout with Jennifer Kries) and working out on the elliptical machine in our community fitness room.

Do you stick to the same routine? Or do you like to change it up? - See above. ;)

How do you stay motivated to reach your goals? - I dunno man. I've been so discouraged that I've been working out for over four months now and I haven't lost a pound. But I'm hoping that was due to nursing and now that I've just weaned maybe it will start to fall off. So that is my current motivation. Before that, it was just the great feeling of being stronger and having so much more stamina that has kept me going. I know I'm so much healthier now but that stupid weight is still there. I'm gonna keep going though. I just exercised tonight and burned 360 calories.

I'm the wrong person to ask dieting help from. I do like the summer because we all feel too hot to cook any heavy meals which will also heat up the house and we eat a lot of fruits and salad.

Favorite healthy meal: Taco salad, served on a whole wheat tortilla instead of using tortilla chips! Or baked salmon! I also love healthy homemade soups and pasta dishes with chicken or shrimp added. I always use ground turkey if a recipe calls for ground beef. My favorite trick is to make a salad for dinner nearly every day, and eat a large plate of it before eating the main dish. It helps me to keep portions smaller!

Healthy snacks: I do the "mini meal" thing...whole wheat cereal with skim milk for breakfast; a banana mid-morning; a SlimFast meal bar (milk chocolate peanut) and skim milk for lunch; a big hunk of watermelon or some other fruit mid-afternoon; and when I get the munchies before dinner I go for baby carrots or grape tomatoes with ranch dip (made from reduced fat sour cream). At night it's Dreyer's frozen fruit bars with no added sugar...30 calories and scrumptious! :)

Exercise: Mine and Lauren's latest exercise DVD is the hardest and most effective one we've ever used: "The Biggest Loser Cardio Max" workout. It's $15 at Target. I have a love/hate relationship with it...if you try it you'll know what I mean! We do that in the morning, and Pilates in the evening. I also run about 1 1/2 miles nearly every day with Hubby and Zach, just so they'll keep fit, too. I am EXHAUSTED! :

How to stay motivated? I have terrible metabolism...if I work out, but don't eat light and healthy, I gain weight. If I were to diet like crazy and not work out, it wouldn't be effective. If I were to eat whatever I wanted (junk!) and didn't work out, I would quickly become obese and probably have diabetes like many of my relatives do. It's worth all the effort!

Gee, that was a novel, haha! :D

Have you ever noticed that the first part of diet is "die"? Diet is a four letter word in my house! How about for exercise, call me and we'll check up on each other! I'm trying to get in better shape too... The baby weight isn't coming off as easy this time... Seriously, let's call and check up on each other!

I just want to be healthy. I've been trying to lose weight because I don't feel good at this weight.
I'm terrible at cutting back, but I'm trying. I do an old Jane Fonda aerobics tape about 35 minutes and try to get on my elliptical for a half hour a day--I'm trying to work up to an hour.

I do best when I work with others. I joined a group of ladies on line. It's called fight the fluffy. It modivates me to do the little things I should. Knowing I have to report to total strangers. Weight watchers has worked for me in the past too. I lost 60 lbs doing that. Not even going to meetings just doing it on my own. Exersize wise running is the extent of my coordination skills.

So not qualified to comment on this one. I was just wondering the same thing myself as I realized I haven't done any regular exercise in OVER A YEAR now...and my favorite food is still chocolate.

I see this all coming to a head in the near future.

A fat, round, extremely curvy head that has trouble fitting though doorways. (I store all my fat in my head.)
