Party Animals
So, when you hit a big anniversary, like 10 years, you really should go out and party, right? Well, let me tell you, we PARTIED like nothing else! That's right... I got all dressed up in my sandals, old shabby blue capri's, a pink t-shirt, my big ol' gray sweatshirt, no makeup and a sloppy pony tail on the top of my head. Hubby wore his work clothes. And then... we took the kids and went through the drive through at Wendy's! WOOHOOO!! Isn't that the coolest 10th anniversary celebration you've ever heard of?? We are so awesome...
Actually, next week we will probably try to go somewhere nice... we didn't go out last night because babysitters are horridly expensive. The cheap sitters are anywhere from $2-4 per kid, per hour. So, if we go to dinner and a movie, we'll say 4 hours out, we're looking at $24-48 just for a sitter! There are others that are $5-8 per kid, per hour. I know there are some that charge more than that, but we don't know any. But, next week Alan's parents will be here... and they usually take the kids for one evening so that we can get out. So, we will probably celebrate next Friday at the Cheesecake Factory followed by the new National Treasure movie!
Wait... I'm just wondering something...how come I don't make $2-8 per hour for taking care of my kids? Man... we'd be raking it in since the mom stuff is a 24 hour thing! Let's see... if I was making the minimum $2 per hour, per kid that would be $144 a day. Which is $1008 a week... which is about $4032 a month... hmm... let's see... 52 weeks in a year... times $1008 per week... $52,416. And that's at the minimum of $2 per hour per kid! If it was $8... well, that's $209,664! Maybe I need to join a union for moms. I am SERIOUSLY underpaid!

LOL :D When you find that union, LET ME KNOW!!

My Hubby and I always joke about how I don't make enough money as a mom. When he gets a raise from work, he'll come home and ask, "So what are you going to do with your raise?" And I prattle off a list of my great plans for it.... :)

Aw well. Hope you have fun NEXT week for your anniversary then. (You know, on my birthday a few weeks ago, we splurged for KFC. Woot! I'm wild, I tell you - WILD!!!)

  2. Think of years ago when babysitters got 50 cents an hour ; ) (But then again salaries were not what they are today) Good luck with finding that union!!!

You'll love National Treasure it is really fun. Yum, on the Cheesecake Factory.

  3. Can I just tell you that when I was a teenager I babysat for like $2/hour TOTAL?!?! The parents would be gone ALL day AND night on a Saturday, and pay me $20. That was for their kids AND their friends kids. And I thought that was a good day! Now the LEAST I can pay is $10/hour, usually more.
That's so funny, though, going to Wendy's. That's pretty appropriate for 10 years! At 25 years you'll probably not even bother getting dressed. hmmm... :)

  5. I'm sorry, but $5 per hour, per child is too much. $5 an hour yes, per child, no way. Is there someone you can swap with?

  6. Craziness on the babysitting. It's not so bad here.

Love the Wendy's thing. We've done that before.

I'm so joining that union when you find it.

  8. And you know what? I don't even need THAT much! Shoot, I'd take just a Mommy discount at WalMart or something, ANYthing that acknowledges that I DO have a job, I just don't get money for it.

Wow, the price of babysitters sure have risen since I was a kid. I think they make more than I do at my job!

It doesn't really matter what day you celebrate your anniversary...free babysitting is so much better!

How fun that you figured out just how underpaid you are...I like to think about how very VALUABLE we moms are! YAY! :D

  14. In Vegas, the spoiled wee twits in the ward expected $10 an hour. Yeah. We never went anywhere. Babysitting is so intense, price-wise!

I'm considering, for our next outing, just buying a roll of duct tape and fastening the child in a comfortable spot where he can't get into any trouble. For some reason, the husband isn't thrilled with the idea. Can't imagine why not.
